The Towson University Marching Band will perform in the 101st Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade next year.
The university announced the plans after the band’s Homecoming performance at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday.
For the band, the invitation marks TUMB’s first return to the parade since 2009, when it earned the distinction of becoming the “World-Famous” Towson University Marching Band.
“This is an extraordinary achievement for our students, directors and the entire Towson University community,” Towson University President Mark Ginsberg said in a statement. “Being selected for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is recognition of years of hard work, artistic excellence and dedication. We are thrilled to see the members of the band showcase their talent on a national stage.”
The invitation follows a highly competitive application process. Each year, Macy’s selects a small number of marching bands from hundreds of applicants nationwide to participate in the nationally televised event in New York City.
“This opportunity is the culmination of years of dedication from our students, staff and marching band community,” Taylor Yozwiak, TU’s director of athletic bands, said in a statement. “To be invited back to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an incredible honor and a testament to the passion and talent of our band members. We are excited to represent Towson University and share our unique performance style with audiences across the country.”
Preparations for the 2027 parade are underway that include extensive planning, travel and fundraising to support student transportation, lodging, meals and equipment costs associated with the trip.
