More than 150 employers are expected at Houston’s 15th annual Hiring Red, White & You! job fair Tuesday, Nov. 3, where veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses and other job seekers can meet directly with hiring managers.
The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Reliant Center, 1 Fannin St. A veterans’ priority hour is scheduled from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., following an opening ceremony.
Employers are expected to recruit for jobs in health care, energy, engineering, transportation, construction, skilled trades and public service. Some plan to conduct on-site interviews. The participating employer list is still being finalized. Past Houston fairs have included employers such as Southwest Airlines, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Bechtel, Sysco, NRG, Republic Services, the City of Houston and Harris County.
The Houston fair is part of a statewide initiative coordinated by the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Veterans Commission and local Workforce Solutions boards. Thirty events are scheduled across Texas from Nov. 3 through Nov. 24.
Texas is home to about 1.5 million veterans. Since 2012, the Hiring Red, White & You! initiative has connected employers with job seekers and helped facilitate thousands of same-day hires, according to the Texas Veterans Commission.
