Man killed in shooting involving FBI in Dixmoor, Illinois

A man was killed in an FBI agent-involved shooting on Wednesday morning in Dixmoor, Illinois.

The FBI confirmed agents were in the area of 145th Street and Cooper Avenue to serve a federal warrant when an agent was involved in a shooting.

The person they were looking for was shot and killed. Family identified the man who was killed as 22-year-old Chadwick Clark Jr. His mother said he was one of seven children and is now the second she's lost.

The FBI arrived at the home on Wednesday morning to serve a warrant for Clark Jr., who was on parole after serving time in the Illinois Department of Corrections for aggravated unlawful use of a loaded weapon that was found in a vehicle without having a concealed carry license — a serious charge in Illinois.

"Telling them, like, let him just hear my voice, he's going to come out," the mother said.

Family says when he didn't come out, agents forced their way into the home before he was shot and killed.

"Have empathy. For whatever upbringing you thought that child or why he turned out the way he turned out, whatever, how they're gonna try to make him look, at the end of the day, he still was human," the mother said.

A baby was also inside at the time, but was not hurt, nor were any of the agents.

The FBI did not provide any further details on the incident, including what happened inside the home.

One woman who lives on the block where the shooting occurred said she and her husband woke up to two loud bangs around 6 a.m., and said she could hear FBI agents making their announcements and banging on the door of the house where they were serving the warrant.

She said an hour passed after that until she heard about six gunshots fired. After that, she said she saw FBI agents taking someone out of the house, and that person was put on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.

"We heard another agent say call the ambulance," Ruth Perkins said. "So the guy never stepped out on the porch. He was in the house when they shot him, because we seen the agents bring him down the stairs and lay him on the ground. They was working on him. They called the paramedics, the paramedics came, and they were working on him for a few minutes. They put him in the back and they drove off with him."

Another neighbor said she watched the incident as it unfolded.

"I had went inside for a second to go use the bathroom and when I came back there was a lady running down the street yelling, 'They shot him, they shot him,'" said Elika Hughes.

Family members were also seen standing around outside the home after the shooting.

Perkins said she also saw six people being taken outside. She said those six people were initially handcuffed, but those handcuffs were later removed.

Dixmoor police said the FBI notified them of the effort to serve a warrant at the home, so officers helped the FBI set up a perimeter, but police said they were not involved with actually serving the warrant.

The Cook County Sheriff is also assisting with the investigation, but declined further comment.

The FBI Inspection Division was investigating the incident.

This was the second deadly shooting involving the FBI in the Chicago area this week. On Monday, Oscar D. Isaya-Corrales, 27, was shot and killed during a confrontation with an FBI agent in the 1700 block of South Union Avenue under the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood.

The FBI said the agent was on his way home in a Bureau-issued car when he spotted the man firing at least two shots into a group of innocent people. They said the agent, in an attempt to stop the ongoing threat, engaged with the man, who was then shot and later died.
