FRANKLINTON, N.C. (WRAL) – Franklinton High School was placed on lockdown Monday morning following a report of a possible active shooter, but authorities said a sweep of the school found no threats.
The call came in at 10:23 a.m., prompting the school to go into lockdown.
Franklin County Sheriff Kevin White called the situation a “false alarm” in a social media post and said a sweep of the school found no threats.
“False alarms like this are not funny, but unfortunately must be taken seriously,” White said. “We will investigate the origin of this false report, and the perpetrator will face significant consequences.”
Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklinton police and SBI agents were all on campus investigating the circumstances.
In a letter sent to families, Franklin County Schools spokesperson Dawayne McIntosh said all students and staff were safe.
